Photography competition

1. Eligibility

1.1. Any student in secondary or further education on a full-time photography or visual arts course in the uk, aged 16 years or over on the day the competition closes.
1.2. All elements of the work submitted must be the entrants own original work.
1.3. No entrant will be allowed to be part of either the decision-making process or the judging process.
1.4. Entry to the competition is free. The university will not reimburse additional expenses incurred in the process of entering the competition.

2. Copyright

2.1. Entrants remain the copyright holder to any images created and submitted by themselves.
2.2. Entrants shall be deemed to warrant that they own copyright in the entire work and, if necessary, that they have permission from any other copyright-owner/s to enter the work, and that all necessary model and/or property releases have been obtained. The entrant undertakes to indemnify London Metropolitan University and the sponsors of the competition in respect of any breach of the same.

3. Entries

3.1. London Metropolitan University reserves the right to display, reproduce and publish in any media, any submitted image, without payment, from the time of submission until the end of February 2025, for the sole purpose of promoting and publicising London Metropolitan University and this competition.
3.2 London Metropolitan University reserves the right to display images submitted for the competition, the university websites or associated microsites and archive for an indefinite period unless the entrant requests otherwise in writing to London Metropolitan University.
3.3 The photographer will be credited whenever their work is published in any media or displayed by the university.
3.3 Each entry must not contain any infringing, threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, libellous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic or profane content.
3.4. Each entry must not contain any material that could constitute or encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offence, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.
3.5. Each entry must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any persons rights of privacy or publicity, and your entry must not include:
3.5.1. Copyrighted materials owned by third parties (including movie dialogue or musical compositions).
3.5.2 Trademarks owned by third parties.
3.5.3 Names, likenesses, voices or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or dead.
3.6. No animals must be harmed or manipulated in the making of the image.
3.7. Entrants confirm that each individual whose image is featured in the competition entry has given consent for the use of their image in connection with this competition and in accordance with these terms and conditions. Where the subject of an image entered into the competition is aged less than 18 years, the entrant confirms that the parent or guardian of that individual has given the relevant consent.
3.8. It is a condition of entry that all terms and conditions are adhered to.
3.9. If you are under 18 years old, you must have your parent or legal guardians consent to participate in the competition. Consent will be assumed as part of your submission to this competition.

4. General

4.1. All entries must meet the conditions required under entry procedure, technical specification and format (listed below).
4.2. London Metropolitan University reserves the right to apply its own discretion throughout, which may include, but is not limited to: disqualifying any entrant not complying with the rules.
4.3. The judges decision is final. No appeals be heard or correspondence entered into regarding the decision or the decision-making process.
4.4. Successful entrants may be asked during the following 12-month period after the the final submission date to participate in any appropriate marketing and PR activities related to the competition for and on behalf of London Metropolitan University.

5. Entry procedure, technical specification and format

5.1. Entries must be submitted using the email address provided. A current valid school or college email address must be used and included all communications from London Metropolitan University will be made via email in the first instance.
5.2. All judging will be of digital files.
5.3. Up to a maximum of three images can be submitted, comprising one in each of the competition categories.
5.4. You may only enter the same image once into the competition.
5.5. Neither the entrants name, nor any copy, must appear anywhere on the image.
5.6. Files must be named in the following format(s): familyname-name-people. Jpeg; familyname-name-places. Jpeg; familyname-name-things. Jpeg
5.7. Images submitted by email should in jpeg format with a minimum of 2000 pixels on the longest side. The final file size for each image submitted must not exceed 5 megabytes.

6. Deadline

6.1. The deadline for submission is Wednesday 14 February 2024 via the email photocomp@londonmet.ac.uk
6.2. Successful entrants will be informed of the judges shortlist by end of April 2024.

7. Prizes

7.1 The first prize of a shoot in the university studio will be arranged at a mutually convenient time for the prize winner and Photography BA team. This shoot will be arranged only when it is completely safe to do so within government and London Metropolitan University covid-19 guidelines.
7.2 London Metropolitan University retains the right to cancel the prize or offer an alternative prize if physical attendance on campus is impossible in the 12 months following the competition.
7.3 London Metropolitan University will not be liable for any additional expenses incurred in attending a photo shoot, including the cancellation of the shoot due to events beyond the control of the university.

8. Data protection

8.1. Personal information you provide is used by London Metropolitan University, and companies associated with the event, to process your entry and to contact you as required for the organisation and administration of the event.
8.2. If you provide consent we may email you about other events, courses or we think may be of interest to you.
8.3. By entering, London Metropolitan University may share your details with sponsors for the purpose of publishing the details of all winners, including the winning images.
8.4 London Metropolitan University shall adhere to the Data Protection Act 2018 and the general data protection regulation. We respect your privacy and will never sell your data to any third party.
