London Met Cities Research

Cities champions the rich array of urban research that happens here at Aldgate. Across the School of Art, Architecture and Design, there is a remarkable cluster of city-engaged people, busy with action to reveal, advocate, promote and influence. Each of them are focused on affecting as well as understanding. The throng of research produced and championed by Cites concentrates on London, as well as on global urban questions, with a focus on the emerging social and urban challenges of the Global South.

Collaboration is a watchword of Cities, both inside the School of Art, Architecture and Design and outside. We collaborate with the GLA, Just Space, The Bartlett School of Planning (UCL), various community groups and London local authorities (e.g LB Southwark and the Southwark Planning Network). As we move forward we intend to expand our collaborative remit to include overseas colleagues, particularly in the Global South.

The Cities Research Centre is closely aligned with the MA Architecture, Cities and Urbanism course. The Centre also has the potential to supervise PhD research, both using the traditional route of authoring a long dissertation, but also by practice. If you're interested in researching with us and would like to discuss the possibilities, please contact Dr Jane Clossick.
