Hospital Escape Room

About this event

The brief from Conor, Course Leader for BSc Dietetics and Nutrition, was to motivate SHS students by using a game to test their knowledge of what to do in a professional scenario. In this case, the setting was a hospital ward and students had to find information about one of the patients in order to write a short report recommending dietary requirements.

In real life, students undertake at least one placement, where they meet patients, access medical records and prepare nutritional guidance.  This application was designed to be used prior to placement, as a preparation.  The concept is an Escape Room, where the player can’t leave the ward until they have found all the information they need.

Games students modelled a 3D hospital ward with patient and props, created a conversational system so the player could chat to the patient, and brought everything together using Unity game engine.

Research Support Presentation by supervisors Dr Fiona French and Conor Murray and students David Levi (BSc Games Programming), Amelia Ward and Katie Flynn (BSc Games Animation, Modelling & Effects) at the Londonmet Staff-Student Conference.
