Studio brief

“I‘ve forgotten who it was that said creation is memory. My own experiences and the various things I have read remain in my memory and become the basis upon which I create something new. I couldn’t do it out of nothing”- Akira Kurosawa
“Most of the basic material a writer works with is acquired before the age of fifteen”– Willa Cather
Human beings share common experiences and problems- so often the best stories are staring us in the face but how to find them? This studio encourages students to make compelling films based on their own immediate or past experiences, observations and memories.
Through a creative development process students will find the drama of real life and interesting characters exploring the boundaries between realist, experimental, poetic and fictional filmmaking.
During the course of the studio, students will participate in the production of three film projects; a film experiment, a “drama” project and a live project working to a client brief, as well as undertaking various technical exercises, a short script and undertaking various technical exercises, a short contributing to the School’s “Celebration” week.
