The South Asian Studies (SAS) Research Group brings together scholars within London Metropolitan University whose research interests and teaching focus on South Asia and its diaspora.
The SAS Research Group engages with and showcases the diversity of work on South Asia and its diaspora, and provides a space for academics and students to interact across disciplines from films to social sciences, criminology, sociology, human rights, cultural heritage, environment, literature, education, migration and diaspora. The group also caters to the diverse interests of the University’s Students’ Groups, which currently include an Afghani Society, a Bangladeshi Society, an Indian Society, a Nepalese Society, a Pakistani Society, a Panjab Society and a Bollywood Society.
This group works as a hub to promote community engagement and the organisation of events and research seminars catering to the interests of students and staff alike, with the aim of enriching understandings and collaboration.
Aims
- encourage collaboration and promote interdisciplinary research, encompassing film and literary studies, criminology, sociology, migration diaspora studies, and cultural studies.
- enhance research outputs and funding opportunities, as interdisciplinary dialogue leading to the establishment of collaborative projects.
- provide a space for researchers and PhD students to present their research in the field of South Asian studies.
- promote community engagement, knowledge exchange and maximise research impact- with a specific attention to community groups’ needs and interests.
