Prof. Louise Ryan invited to present the stories of Irish nurses in the NHS at Abbey House Museum & Kirkstall Abbey

The session was organised by Patrick Bourne from the Abbey House Museum and Des Hurley from the Irish Arts Foundation, in cooperation with the Leeds Irish Centre. The talk was also part of the Leeds Irish History Month

Des praised the Irish Nurses oral history project saying: ‘It will continue to inform a wider and previously undocumented historical awareness about the crucial contribution of Irish nurses to the NHS’.

It was especially appropriate to present the findings of our oral history project in Leeds as three of our research participants had left Ireland in the 1950s-1960s to work in hospitals in that city.
