Studio VisCom 03: Studio Ink

Studio brief

In an age of post-digital publishing, this studio explores both the resilient power of the printed page and the exciting possibilities of how audiences can be reached off the page – on screen and in physical spaces.

We ask, what is the role of the designer and illustrator today? How do designers and illustrators use publishing as a creative tool, a mode of expression and as a medium to investigate, challenge and express new ideas?

Our studio provides a space get to grips with the materials and processes of publishing – the image-making, editorial approaches, digital tools, content creation and production on the journey from concept to publication.

We’ll work on live briefs to publish books and magazines, each with a presence in print, in the digital world and real life spaces. We’ll work by the mantra that publications make "the sound not an echo”. While seeking to understand the traditions and conventions of publishing’s rich history, our focus will be on future-orientated ideas of what publishing represents to us as consumers and readers.

Workshops will equip you to make exciting visual content using analogue and digital processes and turn your ideas into printed, bound publications in multiple editions.
