Richard Vardy recently retired from Investec plc, which is an international specialist banking group that provides a diverse range of financial products and services to a select client base. Up until 2007 he was company secretary to the Holding Company and Bank boards, namely Investec plc and Investec bank (UK) Ltd. In recent times he helped found and headed up the corporate responsibility function within the Investec Group.
He is a past student and graduate of the University.
In his early career, Richard held positions at Union plc (previously The Union Discount Company of London Ltd), the leading Discount House operating in the London Money Markets. He held trading and administration positions during this time and was appointed Group Company Secretary in 1985.
Between 1985-96 he was Hon Secretary of the London Discount Market Association (LDMA). When the operations of the Money Market changed significantly in 1997, Richard helped form the London Money Market association (LMMA), where he acted as secretary and later became deputy chairman.
Richard holds membership in a number of professional bodies, including ICSA, IOD (Member City committee) and the Securities Institute. He is a longtime supporter of the charity sector and is currently deputy chairman of the City Branch of St John Ambulance.
Richard maintains a strong interest in both corporate responsibility and corporate governance and lectures on both topics.
