Status: Aldgate campus open as normal tomorrow (Tuesday 8 March), despite fire in nearby building.
What's happened?
Earlier this afternoon, a fire broke out on the 18th and 19th floors of a tower block on Whitechapel High Street, near our Aldgate campus. The London Fire Brigade reported that the blaze was put out by 19:00 this evening.
What does this mean for London Met?
Thankfully, the fire did not affect any London Met buildings, so our Aldgate campus will be open as usual. However, please note:
- It is likely that Old Castle Street will be closed to all people and traffic tomorrow. However, our Goulston Street entrance will be open as usual
- Currently, access to Aldgate East Station is limited, but Aldgate is operating as normal. We recommend you plan your journey before you leave
Who can help me tomorrow?
Our reception team will be on hand tomorrow if you need directions or help with accessing other parts of the building.
Please monitor your email and our social media channels for any further updates.
