The Art of Effective Presentations

Guest lecture by esteemed Visiting Professor

Date: 14/01/2015

BA HRM level 5 students were treated to an excellent guest lecture on 'The Art of Effective Presentations' from visiting professor Angela O’Connor, CEO of the HR Lounge, when they returned from their Christmas break to resume classes in the new year.

Angela captivated the audience with her tips on how to engage with your audience and explained the importance of ensuring that you connect with members of your audience and tell a convincing story that will enhance your credibility and appeal as a speaker. She put her tips into practice, showing how to put the audience first, by tailoring her messages and examples to the individuals in the room.

Angela ensured that each and every student in the room was involved with her message. She showed how to talk with, rather than to the audience, explaining the importance of preparation and rehearsal and not relying on PowerPoint slides. Students really appreciated Angela’s presentation as it will help them to prepare for their own assessment presentations and for job interviews.

Guest speakers are a regular feature of the HRM courses at London Metropolitan University. Students hear regularly from visiting professors, as well as researchers and practitioners, enhancing their knowledge, skills and employability.
