Date: 28/10/2014

Students on the BA (Hons) International Hospitality Management programme were able to experience fine dining first hand when they visited Michelin-starred ‘Alyn Williams at The Westbury’ in Mayfair. During their four course meal, the students explored issues such as the impact of ‘stars’ in the fine dining sector, the value of an experience and the importance of knowledgeable staff. They were joined by Chef Maestro Alyn Williams himself, who talked about the secrets of his success, as well as providing valuable advice for those wanting to secure that first graduate job in the hospitality industry.

The group also got to meet assistant manager and recent London Met graduate, Agnes Mazurek, who shared her expert knowledge and experience and top tips for success at university. Agnes said of the visit: “It was amazing to meet individuals very passionate and driven towards the hospitality industry. I always believed that education is very important however it is only the beginning; it is crucial to prepare yourself to work hard and find what you love doing, because even if it’s difficult at the beginning, the passion can drive you to success."

Ashley Garlick, senior lecturer in hospitality and events management said “there is simply no better way to learn what makes a great fine dining restaurant than to see one in action, so this kind of visit is vital to the course. Amazing food must be accompanied by passion and personality, and Alyn Williams at The Westbury is a shining example of this.”
