Research facilities

Our facilities are spread across a number of laboratories and research spaces. We have one of the best body composition research laboratories in Europe with state-of-the-art equipment which includes DXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) and air-displacement plethysmography (BodPod) as well as a range of single and multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysers. We have the facility to measure human energy expenditure by continuous flow open-circuit indirect calorimetry.

Our superlab in our Science Centre houses our food analysis facility where we can analyse the energy, nitrogen, fat, fibre and moisture content of food and diets as well as micornutrient analysis by atomic absportion spectroscopy and flame photometry.

Our large-scale kitchen provides the opportunities to prepare experimental and therapeutic dishes and meals and there is a high-tech sensory analysis laboratory. To complement the laboratory facility, we have a clinic with counselling rooms where our weight management service is delivered. Food microbiology research is supported by modern category x and y research labs.
