Abstract:
The aim of the research is to develop a creative contemporary choreographic methodology for Artistic Swimming. The practice led investigation experiments with a range of choreographic and somatic methodologies, in the context of key 20th century movement/dance based performance makers, with a group of artistic swimmers who are well versed in the standard artistic swimming protocols and movement dynamics towards finding new ways of working with swimmers/performers for the creation of original choreographic works.

Francesca is Italian and since 2012 she has been living in the beautiful mountainous Rhone-Alpes region in France. She has been swimming most of her life. After being a member of the National Italian Synchronized Swimming Elite Squad, silver medal at the European Cup in 2001 and gold medal at the World Master Championship in 2012, she continued to train artistic swimming at international level in France, Switzerland and as head coach of the Swim England Artistic Swimming Youth Squad.

Francesca is currently attending doctoral studies with London Metropolitan University. Her thesis is based on a somatic investigation of the being through a trans-disciplinary approach (theatre, dance and artistic swimming) within performing arts. In February 2020, she founded an international company of artistic swimmers named Undine Aquatic Theatre based in France, with the purpose of developing an artistic swimming training and choreographic method to expand performing arts contemporary horizons/backgrounds.
