Record nominations for 3D design area in annual Student Union Awards as Simone Ten Hompel wins staff prize

Simone Ten Hompel has won the staff award for The Cass at the London Metropolitan University Student Union (SU) Awards, in a year which saw an unprecedented number of nominations for staff in the 3D area of the school.
 
The annual event, which gives recognition to outstanding staff and students from the University community, saw the Great Hall filled to capacity. For the first time, all areas of 3D Design enjoyed a nomination for a Cass staff award this year.

The nominees from the area were:

  • Simone ten Hompel, Silversmith teaching on MA by Project ( Winner)
  • James Hunting, Course Leader for Textiles
  • Lesley Stephenson, Critical and Contextual Studies (3D)
  • Cathy Stack, Course leader for Furniture and Product courses
  • Roisin Dunne, Senior Lecturer in Fashion

Simone’s award recognised her tireless teaching on the MA by Project, the nomination describing her as 'inspiring, supportive, encouraging, and with a tangible interest in all students, providing a high level of challenge, offering thought-provoking and intriguing advice and ideas which push students to achieve their best.' Simone is a world-renowned silversmith and her expertise has informed her teaching and brought the respect of students and staff alike. Also at the lavish event Trevor Norris who leads Creative Writing and English Literature at the school received an award as 'unsung hero' dues to his ' impeccable passion and commitment to all students and staff ' adding that he goes 'above and beyond to give assistance wherever he can, regardless of his own work commitments'
