Why study this course?

Our Artificial Intelligence BSc (Hons) course with foundation year at London Met aims to produce a new generation of artificial intelligence professionals who combine technical fluency, ethical insight, and social purpose. The course offers a unique proposition by situating AI education within London Met's values of inclusivity, creativity and civic responsibility. 

This course integrates human-centered AI, social impact design, and employability pathways that empower students to apply artificial intelligence to real-world challenges such as healthcare inequalities, sustainability, accessibility, and digitial inclusion. Students will graduate not only as skilled programmers but as reflective practitioners capable of leading change across sectors. 

This foundation year helps you build your confidence and skills, as well as learn the fundamentals of AI. This course is shared alongside other foundation degrees; you'll graduate with a full undergraduate degree with the same title and award as those who studied the traditional three-year course. 

This Artificial Intelligence (including founation year) BSc (Hons) course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of AI theory and practice. The course is designed to address the ever-evolving AI landscape, with modules underpinned by civic responsibility, safe and trusted AI, where you'll develop crucial analytical and practical skills, opening doors to a wide range of future-focused careers. 

The course is structured around AI's core dimensions, including the foundations of AI, data structures and machine learning. The course equips you with the technical skills in computer science, such as programming and data processing, while also building your communication and problem-solving abilities for the modern workplace. 

You’ll study reasoning, interactions and autonomous agents including robotics. You'll also gain a deep understanding of the ethics and philosophy of AI and its shifting role in society through exploring the social, legal, and professional dimensions. You’ll also study core principles such as logic, statistics, and algorithms, and apply them to real-world contexts.

Throughout your degree, you’ll apply your skillset to tackle complex projects inspired by real-world industry problems. This could include working with an external company on developing a technological solution to an industry problem in your third year.

Course details

In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, you should have:

  • a minimum of 32 UCAS points from an A Level or equivalent Level 3 qualification ( e.g. BTEC National, Subsidiary or Extended Diploma).
  • English Language and Mathematics GCSE at grade C/grade 4 or above (or equivalent)

Applicants with relevant professional qualifications or extensive professional experience will also be considered on a case by case basis.

If you don't have traditional qualifications or can't meet the entry requirements for this undergraduate degree, you may still be able to gain entry by completing our Artificial Intelligence (including foundation year) BSc (Hons)

 

Accreditation of Prior Learning

Any university-level qualifications or relevant experience you gain prior to starting university could count towards your course at London Met. Find out more about applying for Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL).

English language requirements

To study a degree at London Met, you must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language. If you require a Student visa (previously Tier 4) you may need to provide the results of a Secure English Language Test (SELT) such as Academic IELTS. This course requires you to meet our standard requirements.

If you need (or wish) to improve your English before starting your degree, the University offers a Pre-sessional Academic English course to help you build your confidence and reach the level of English you require.

Qualification requirements for students applying from outside the UK

There will be a range of assessment methods employed throughout the course, including in-class assignments, formal exams, and coursework.

Formative and summative feedback will be provided using a variety of methods and approaches, such as learning technologies, verbally, at various points throughout the teaching period and will adhere to the University policy regarding the timing of feedback.

 

Upon graduation, you'll be well prepared to pursue rewarding and successful careers in the growing field of artificial intelligence. Furthermore, you'll also be equipped to pursue further academic studies with an MSc or PhD research. This course can be a gateway to our MSc in Artificial Intelligence or Robotics with Artificial Intelligence.

If you study your undergraduate degree with us, as a graduate of London Met, you'll be entitled to a 20% discount on a postgraduate course if you continue your studies with us.
