Dr Karyofyllis (Lakis) Zervoulis is a Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology. Lakis teaches social psychology as well as research methods, statistics and data analysis modules in Psychology at all academic levels (foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate).

Dr Karyofyllis (Lakis) Zervoulis

Lakis has taught similar topics to psychology and medical students at other institution, as the Programme Leader of the Psychology BSc (Hons) and the Psychology [Conversion] MSc at BPP University.

Dr Zervoulis received a departmental scholarship from the University of Surrey where he completed his PhD in Social Psychology. He conducted a series of quantitative and qualitative studies into processes of identity evaluation and politicisation on the internet; in particular, he investigated the case of stigmatised sexuality in two different national contexts. Lakis has previously held research positions at Imperial College, Cambridge University, City University, University College London and Middlesex University. He worked on projects related to gender role behaviour development, socially excluded or stigmatised groups, and evaluation of health care services.

Dr Zervoulis is teaching most topics within social psychology and is using both quantitative and qualitative methods and analyses. His main research interests are in: 

  • social identity and politicisation as applied in the context of stigmatised and minority groups
  • sexuality and gender roles
  • internet psychology
  • cross-cultural psychology
