Supporting employability for international students

London Met's Jenny Wilkinson will take part in a British Council panel to discuss how UK institutions can support international graduate routes.

Date: 18 January 2021

London Met's Director of Student Recruitment & Business Development, Jenny Wilkinson, is set to take part in the British Council's International Education Services Virtual Festival, which runs from 18-21 January.

She will be part of a panel exploring employability for international students, specifically examining the new Graduate Route, and the careers support higher education institutes can offer them. The session will include insights from Noramon Mekhautikul, a UK alumnus from Thailand, on what international students feel should be added for employability support for students, to highlight what students need and expect from their institution in a discussion identifying gaps, and what may be added to support international students.

Along with Jenny and Noramon, the panel will include Oliver Fortescue, Director, UK & EU – Student Acquisition and International Education Expert for Edified; and Jazreel Goh, Country Director for Malaysia at the British Council. They will discuss what UK institutions do well, what gaps need to be addressed, suggested measures to counter the gaps, and what messaging in this area should look like.

Over the past year we have witnessed how fragile our world can be.  The higher education sector has shown much resilience, and the speed at which it has adapted to overcome challenges has been truly breath-taking, but much uncertainty lies ahead.  The future of UK international education will be dictated by the sector’s perseverance to adapt to new challenges, innovate and collectively develop a sustainable future for the industry.

Alongside this session, The International Education Virtual Festival 2021 will explore issues surrounding the global pandemic as well as other factors that may have an impact on the sustainability of UK international education including climate change, the UK's exit from the European Union, the acceleration of online provision and more.
