Paul Kafno, director and chairman of CTVC, an independent TV, radio and media production company, gave a guest lecture on career development to BA HRM students in their employability module ‘Developing Professional Practice’.

Paul talked about how he moved from his working class background to study at Oxford University and then about his personal career journey as a producer, director and writer for the BBC, ITV and more recently, as the owner of a very successful business. Paul gave the students career management and development tips and engaged with them about their interests using his career to highlight key points.

Paul’s productions have won the Prix Italia, Royal Television Society, Golden Gate and Prix Gemini awards. His pioneering work in digital television led him to develop new technologies for the creative industries (digital cinema, electronic theatre, VR simulation) and new tools for interactive storytelling. He has partnered on ten collaborative research projects and is a reviewer and rapporteur for the IST and UK Innovate programmes. Paul is a member of BAFTA and the Council of IBC.
