Students participate in international travel trade show

Tourism and Travel Management students participated in this year’s World Travel Market London business fair.

Date: 28 November 2017

Students from the Tourism and Travel Management BA course took part in the World Travel Market London Business Fair earlier this month, where they had the opportunity to network with industry experts.

Students on this course attend on an annual basis, as the Fair helps students focus on researching industry sectors, contemporary themes in tourism and dissertation focused research. It also supports them with employability, career advice and networking.

Throughout the day, the students attended seminars related to their course modules, which were delivered by professionals in the field. They also had the opportunity to listen to industry panels and visit information stands.

Sarah Serghini Idrissi, a first-year student, said: “We had the opportunity to hear from professionals who spoke about how they had gained their experience and how they worked their way up into their current management positions. They shared their career stories, advice, hints and tips on how to succeed within the tourism and hospitality industry.”

Featured speakers were Julia Lo Bue-Saidwho is a Managing Director of the Advantage Travel Partnership. Jamie Lee Abar who is a CEO of Be Distinctly Different as well as Will and Gemma Jones who are Managing Editors of Gap Year.com and Marketing Managers at Trek America.

“Their talks gave us a lot of hope and ambitions for the future within this industry,” Sarah explained. “It made me more excited for the future to be able to work in tourism.”

World Travel Market London is the leading global event for the travel industry. Lasting three days, the event features almost 5,000 exhibiting destinations, technology and private sector companies, making it the perfect place for students to network.
