Peter Marigold becomes Visiting Professor

Celebrated designer appointed as Visiting Professor at The Cass.

Date: 22 August 2018

The Cass is delighted to announce that leading designer Peter Marigold has been appointed as Visiting Professor in Design and Entrepreneurialism.

Although Peter graduated in sculpture and now describes himself as a furniture designer, his distinguished career has encompassed a wide range of types and scales of projects, from porcelain for Meissen, installations for Paul Smith and his current public artwork for the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh - a 188 metre-long wall of huge panels featuring 3D macroscopic skin textures wrapping around the building.

His role as a Professor of Design and Entrepreneurialism reflects his innovations in finding markets for his work - including crowdfunding and participating in a television game show to promote his innovative and highly successful Formcard product, that empowers people to create and self-repair products, saving money and avoiding waste. Most recenlty, Peter has also utilised this platform to fund a simple software application indicating the breadth of opporunties he sees for designers today.

His broad approach to furniture and product design can also be found in his work with our students: recently furniture and product design students designed new pasta shapes for Carluccio's restaurants, with great success, and several recent graduates already have designs in production, having learned from Peter how to create their own markets, and engage with crowd funding campaigns.

Peter has begun a series of public events at The Cass, bringing eminent designers, our students and the design-interested public together for seminars and networking events, look out for the next one this autumn.
