London Met has joined the Stonewall Diversity Champions programme, the leading employers' programme for ensuring all LGBT staff are accepted without exception in their workplace.
Stonewall is Europe’s largest lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) charity and so far more than 750 organisations in the UK have joined their Diversity Champions programme.
Professor Lynn Dobbs, Vice-Chancellor of London Met said: “London Met is proud to become a Stonewall Diversity Champion, to demonstrate our commitment to LGBT inclusion at the University and in our wider community.
“It is more important than ever for our community to stand in solidarity to support and celebrate all genders, sexualities and identities. We aim to make our University an inclusive and accepting place for all students, staff and visitors.
“London Met has the most socially inclusive student population in England, in one of the most diverse cities in the world. We help everyone to flourish, knowing that it creates a richer way of learning and working. We hope to build on this reputation as a place for everyone to feel welcome, whatever their background, to ensure that all LGBT people feel a sense of belonging and to break down any barriers that they have faced in their time before being part of our community.
“As part of our commitment to Stonewall, we are aiming to make London Met a place where our LGBT students, staff and wider community know that they are safe and free to be themselves.”

Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme is the UK’s leading employers’ programme for ensuring all LGBT staff, customers, clients and service-users are accepted without exception. They work with over 750 organisations covering a range of sectors, including Barclays, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Barnardo’s, all of whom share a core belief in the power of a workplace that is truly equal. By joining the Diversity Champions programme, we’ll receive tailored support and a framework to help us create a workplace where LGBT staff can thrive.
