London Met set to lead student employability project

The project aims to develop a toolkit to enable students from underrepresented backgrounds to develop confidence and competencies for virtual events for graduate-level employment.

London Met is set to be the lead partner university in a new project enhancing employability for students across London and Hertfordshire, following a successful bid to the QAA Collaborative Enhancement Projects 2022.

The project aims to develop a toolkit to enable students from underrepresented backgrounds to develop confidence and competencies to access and participate successfully in virtual events for graduate-level employment.

This will be complemented by an online fair in partnership with Group GTI, who supply the career discovery platform for London Met, where students will be able to apply their learning.

Underpinning this project is a commitment to creating equity and inclusion, recognising that students from underrepresented groups are less likely to secure graduate-level employment, and, as a result of complex demands on their time, may be less prepared for online careers events.

The proposal was co-designed with a number of London Met graduates with experience of job fairs, who highlighted what they felt was essential for successful participation in online events.

London Met will be the lead university working with West London, Roehampton, Hertfordshire, Kingston and Westminster. In total, 17 projects will be supported this year, each led by a QAA Member.

A further 46 partners are engaged in one or more of the projects. Among the 46 partners, there are 35 higher education institutions, three further education colleges, one alternative provider, two overseas education providers, and five other organisations including charities in the education and environmental sectors.
