London Met joins fundraising competition for human rights charity

London Metropolitan University is taking part in raising money for Amnesty International.

Date: 22 January 2015

London Metropolitan University has entered Raise-Off, an inter-university competition for students aiming to raise money for Amnesty International.

After entering and winning last year's Prince's Trust Million Makers competition, London Met is supporting Amnesty in promoting its human rights campaigns around the world.

Several fundraising events will be organised throughout the year including bake sales, markets and creative writing contests.

The group leading the project, the London Met Freedom Fundraisers, have already gotten off to a promising start.

Ms Tahera Huda, Business Links and Placements Coordinator at London Met, who is in charge of the project, said: “We would like to engage with students to raise awareness and encourage debate as well as tap in to their entrepreneurial skills by finding as many fun and creative ways of raising money for such causes as well as win!”

Getting creative

There are many ways to contribute, and students have an opportunity to win amazing prizes, ranging from Amazon vouchers to theatre tickets and spa pampering, as well as add valuable experience for their CVs.

Fatima Adil, Student Experience and Marketing Assistant at London Met’s Guildhall Faculty of Business and Law is helping to organise the fundraising events.

She said: “This is a great opportunity to raise awareness of human rights issues around the world.”

Amnesty International is the world’s largest grassroots rights organisation, helping people and transforming society. They have received a Nobel Peace Prize for their work.

The project was officially launched with the “Amnes-Tea Xmas Cup Cake Day” 12 December in the Moorgate Hub of London Met.
