Dr Teresa Burdett

Biography

Personal Profile:

Teresa is an experienced Principal Academic with a strong background in education, (Bournemouth University and the Open University including teaching and programme design), professional and practice development, (Strong history of practice in the clinical arena including being treble qualified), research (a number of grants awarded, papers published and findings disseminated including conference presentations) and management (including Programme Leadership, Programme Design, NMC Programme Revalidation and Staff support including for PhD’s, NMC Revalidation and Annual Appraisals).

Teresa joined Londonmet earlier this year and is the Module Lead for NR4002 and NR6W02 and has been teaching research across the School.

Previous Skills/Achievements/Experience:

  • Bournemouth University: including a three-year tenure as BSc Programme Leader, which resulted in a significant raise in the NSS Rates and also doubled the number of academic colleagues in a hard to staff arena.
  • Teresa has a strong commitment to widening access and participation including open access to education and health - NHS, Open University, co-production and supporting colleagues.
  • Obtaining grants of £5,000 (sole); £30,000 (Co-lead); £84,000 (team lead).
  • Teaching BSc Adult and Mental Health Nursing Students, BSc Allied Health Professionals, MSc Adult and Mental Health Nursing Students and MSc Public Health Students, Supervisor for MSc and PhD students.
  • Strong history of co-production with students and buddy support for colleagues.
  • Inter-professional Lead including leading, designing and teaching across whole faculty.
  • Strong links with the practice community including leading on joint groups and maintaining clinical competency.
  • Conference presentations regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • Strong pedigree of publication both fiction and non-fiction.
  • Part of the Women’s Academic Network where Teresa addressed issues with external and commercial organisations including pharmaceutical advertising campaigns.

Previous Experience:

Associate Lecturer (Open University) for BSc Adult and Mental Health Nursing Students for the duration of their student journey’s.

Clinical experience in the fields of adult and mental health nursing and health visiting, Teresa's final clinical NHS post being as a senior sister.
