London Met is set to welcome over 70 students from local schools and colleges to its annual Big Idea Challenge Bootcamp at Natwest's building on Cheapside, London
The Big Idea Challenge, which is run by London Met's business incubator Accelerator and supported by companies including Natwest and Microsoft, is a business competition which aims to spark an entrepreneurial interest in budding young business people.
With teams from schools across from London, the competition is one of the University's biggest annual events, and one of the biggest competitions of its kind for young people in London.
16 schools and colleges from across London are taking part in the day, where they will get expert advice on what's involved in starting a business. They will work with London Met's Outreach and Widening Participation team to develop their own business ideas and work on their pitching skills. They will be encouraged to think about the different aspects of a business plan - from customer needs, to marketing, to financial planning - under the guidance of experienced mentors.
The students will then be invited back to pitch their ideas in a competition with the winners announced later this year. The winners will receive access to Accelerator and the services they offer which include building a website for the business, financial support, and marketing and PR experts.
Past winners include New City College, Epping Forest (2021), Brooklands College (2020) and Newham Sixth Form College (2019).
Ella Deadman, Student Enterprise Manager at Accelerator, said, "Every year, we're amazed by the creativity and originality of the students who take part in the Big Idea Challenge Bootcamp.
"We can't wait to welcome the next cohort of students to take part and to meet the next generation of budding entrepreneurs."
The Bootcamp takes place at Natwest's head office on 21 March 2022.
