London Met is delighted to appoint Kelly Cooper as Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Professions.

As an alumna of the University, Kelly has a great affinity for its students. She wrote to them this week, saying, "22 years ago, I was sitting in the exact same seats as you as I ventured into the halls of London Met for my undergraduate degree. I had the most amazing time as a student at London Met and this inspires me to do my very best for you, our students.

"I am delighted to have been appointed to this role. This is your family at London Met and your academic home. Our School is one which provides a supportive and inclusive environment for every student. We are committed to creating an environment where diversity is celebrated and encouraged, where your student voice contributes to all aspects of learning and experience with every attempt made to make each of you feel appreciated and valued.

"Our staff are here to support you in every step of your learning, from our School Office who can make sure you know where to get support and is our one-stop-shop for any challenges you're having, to our incredible teaching staff and academic mentors, who are dedicated to your learning, to stretching and challenging you and making sure you're ready to fulfil your dreams."

Kelly began her career working as an Early Years Practitioner at Imperial College before moving to Queen Mary University to lead their Nursery provision. Kelly worked full time whilst studying her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and it was during the later part of her MA Education (Early Childhood) that Kelly was asked to lead a new government-led Early Years leadership programme at London Met.

Whilst leading this programme Kelly discovered how satisfying her role in raising the aspirations of our students was, and she joined London Met as a full-time member of staff in January 2009.

Since joining Higher Education Kelly progressed through a number of roles including Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer, Head of Subject, and now Dean. She has a strong commitment to providing high-quality education in order to prepare London Met students for careers within the social sciences and social professions – supporting students to make a transformational change to their own lives and to wider communities of practice.
