World Illustration Awards 2016

Cass Illustration alumna shortlisted for prestigious international award.

Sally Finning, a recent postgraduate alumna of The Cass has been shortlisted for a prestigious World Illustration Award (WIA) 2016. Sally is shortlisted in the New Talent category for Children's Books for The Mamas Grandeur – a pop-up book with text by Robert Pocklington.

The book was produced for her final project on the Illustration MA at The Cass, and focused on a child's value of play through tactile and interactive elements.

Sally's work and that of the other finalists will be exhibited at Somerset House's Embankment East galleries in August, at an exhibition organised by The Association of Illustrators, in partnership with the Directory of Illustration in California.

The exhibition, now in its 40th year, presents over 50 of the very best artworks across the diverse field of illustration. Selected from submissions to this year’s World Illustration Awards, the breadth of work is celebrated across eight categories, including advertising, children’s books, editorial and public art. The shortlisted and winning pieces comprise posters, book illustrations, animations and GIFs to sculptural pieces and textiles. The category and two overall winners will be announced by illustrator David Hughes at the awards evening on Wednesday 3 August. The WIA 2016 exhibition will tour the UK throughout the year.

The full judging panel for this year's awards can be viewed on the Association of Illustrators website, where you can also see the shortlisted work. To see more of Sally's illustration work visit her website.
