Karen Bennett, Senior Research Fellow in Human Rights at London Metropolitan University, worked in partnership with the UK All Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group, Amnesty International UK, and Peace Brigades International UK to engage the United Nations Special Procedures, British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the UK Department for International Development in the Wilton Park Dialogue Supporting human rights defenders: challenges and opportunities (WP1451).
Wilton Park has been a not-for-profit executive agency of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office since 1991, but has existed since 1946 as a world leading discussion centre pursuing the objective to address and resolve global challenges.
This recently published Wilton Park Dialogue report documents the actions of the Dialogue WP1451, responding to the UK government’s human rights priorities. The dialogue explored approaches and action that the UK government can take to enable and protect human rights defenders, and addresses current global trends and serious challenges to civic space.
