London Met welcomes Dukus for Engagement Week

The platinum-selling, genre-fluid Colombian/British producer spoke to Music Technology and Production BSc students about his work.

Date: 4 November 2022

Music Technology and Production BSc Level 3 and 4 students were treated to a breakdown of the song “2 Cups - Stay Flee Get Lizzy, Popcaan, Fredo, Tory Lanez” during a visit from highly influential producer Dukus.

Dukus has worked with Giggs, Island Records, Warner Music Group and Sony, amongst many others, and offered students a mix breakdown session and discussion on production. Music Technology and Production Lecturer Karim met Dukus at university in 2009, and have since gone on to work on projects both as peers and friends.

As part of a double guest feature for Engagement Week, students gathered in the lecture theatre for a song breakdown to the chart topping song.

Steve Good, Senior Lecturer in Music Production said, “During the two-hour seminar, Dukus discussed in great detail some of the production techniques used on the song, even revealing some of his secrets along the way!

“Students gained some great insight into the production process, from beat making, utilising samples, and sound design, to recording and mixing vocals with effects.

“During the discussion, it was revealed how the drums came to sound like they do, which came as a surprise to many of the students in attendance.

“Students got to see first-hand what it could take to create work of a similar standard, and Dukus was all too pleased to share his wealth of knowledge and experience during the Q&A. As it turns out, a student on the course knows the engineer behind one of the songs Dukus produced. It’s always good to have a friend in common in this industry!”
