London Met students and alumni to showcase work at London Design Festival

The Shoreditch Campus provides an ideal location for designers at the heart of the festival's largest district

Date: 19 August 2026

London Metropolitan University students and alumni will have the exciting opportunity to present their work at London Design Festival next month.

The 24th edition of the festival, which celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world, will feature Shoreditch Design Week as its largest official district - and London Met graduates are set to play a large role in it.

This will include a design show by 12 current students on the master’s Design course and another by a select group of graduates who left five to 10 years ago.

Both shows will be held at London Met’s campus in Shoreditch – an area which is world famous as a centre for design. This also presents students and graduates with an enviable location to showcase their work.

Kaye Newman, Deputy Dean of the School of Art Architecture and Design (AAD), said: “One of the benefits of having this fantastic campus in the heart of Shoreditch means that we can offer our students a huge amount of exposure to a design-orientated audience.

“That’s particularly exciting at times like this. Being able to participate in a global event such as London Design Festival is an incredible opportunity for young designers with ambitions of success.”

'Huge audience of design businesses'

Shoreditch Design Week, now organised by the events and publishing company Media 10, aims to showcase the best in UK and international design.

Kaye said: “Any work presented during this week automatically goes to a wider audience. The footfall to come and see students’ burgeoning portfolios will be immense.

“The graduates’ work will be seen potentially by a huge audience of design devotees and design businesses alike.”

London Met is also hosting one of the three “Making London” symposiums – a series of events which will discuss “Making” as a culture and design practice within London.

It will include creative practitioners from three distinct markets, featuring London Met alumni Michael Mariott, who runs a successful design company, Luke Pearson of Pearson Lloyd and Milo Laughlin Greening of Batchworks.

This symposium will explore modern, sustainable making and manufacturing within the product and furniture industries. It aims to attract a wide range of attendees, including makers, designers, manufacturers, educators, students, and interested members of the public.

Kaye said: “Our mission through the discussion and exhibitions curated at this symposium will inspire more people to get involved in making as a career or buying authentic products which contribute to the thriving creative community in London’s East End and beyond.”

All events are free and open to those who register via Eventbrite. They will take place at London Met’s Shoreditch Campus at 35 Kingsland High Street, London E2 8AA.
