London Met Professor to chair judging panel for major innovation awards

Professor Bal Virdee will lead the judges in the communications and IT category at the Institute of Engineering and Technology Innovation Awards.

Professor Bal Virdee from London Met’s Centre of Communications Technology has been selected to chair a panel of judges for this year's Institute of Engineering & Technology Innovation Awards.

The E&T innovation awards recognise and celebrate the very best new innovations across the breadth of science, engineering and technology. Entries are made from across the globe and have the potential to make dramatic improvements to modern society, demonstrating the innovation and imagination of engineers worldwide as they tackle economic and societal challenges. 

He commented: “I am honoured and excited to chair this year’s judging panel in communications and IT category, which is a critical infrastructure that underpins many other critical networks, such as energy, transport, finance, health, among others. Joining me in the panel are experts from Ministry of Defence, BT, Huazhong University of Science & Technology, and Network Rail.” 

“It’s good to see engineers getting recognition in the amazing work they do in tackling the many issues facing our global community including sustainability, alternative energy sources etc.” 

The shortlist of finalists will be announced in soon, and the winners will be announced on 10 November 2022 at Hilton London Bankside.
