Professor Bal Virdee has been selected to sit on a panel of judges for the 2019 Institution of Engineering and Technology Awards.

Date: 16 May 2019

Professor Bal Virdee, Professor of Microwave Technology at London Metropolitan University, has been selected as a judge for the 2019 Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Awards.

The IET awards recognise and celebrate the very best new innovations across the breadth of science, engineering and technology. Entries are made from across the globe and have the potential to make dramatic improvements to modern society, demonstrating the innovation and imagination of engineers worldwide as they tackle economic and social challenges.

Professor Virdee will use his experience and knowledge from within the 5G industry to judge finalists based on the given criteria. He commented: “I am honoured and excited to be a part of this year’s judging panel. Communications technology has never been more crucial and we are at a highly exciting time where change is happening fast.

“It is paramount that professionals within the industry are up-to-date and forward thinking and that’s exactly the ethos of the IET Awards. I can’t wait to get started in July.”

Judging the awards will commence in July 2019 with the winners being announced on 13 November at an awards ceremony held at The Brewery. This year’s host is Alex Brooker, co-presenter of The Last Leg on Channel 4.

Professor Virdee is a Fellow of the IET and organises an annual conference which looks into the progression of 5G technology.
