London Met’s Way to Win 2019 event had guest speakers from the Civil Service, Eventbrite and Girls on Tour, giving careers advice to students about to graduate
Date: 07 June 2019
The Careers and Employability team at London Met organised a one-day careers extravaganza, Way to Win 2019, which took place 5 June. The all-day conference aim helped students and recent graduates find their perfect job by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge.
Neelam Thapar, Head of Careers and Employability, said: "The Careers and Employability team have coordinated an excellent programme to help our students develop the skills and confidence that employers are looking for in new graduates.
“We know that our students have much to offer employers, and events such as Way to Win can help students with top tips and expertise to succeed in their search for their dream graduate job.
“The Careers and Employability team are available throughout the summer to offer guidance to our students and we offer these services for three years after graduation."
Throughout the day, students engaged in a number of practical workshops, such as online psychometric tests, strategies for effective job searches, and advice on CVs and cover letters. Students even had the chance to experience a ‘speed networking’ event, supporting the development of their important interpersonal skills.
Guest Speakers
We were lucky to have a number of guest speakers who passed on their knowledge to the next generation of working graduates.
Rachel Langford, Talent Manager at Eventbrite, provided her expert insight into mastering job interviews. She explained to the students that ‘research is needed to find both the best and available avenues for landing your dream job’. Through interactive workshops, Rachel presented different strategies for approaching interviews, as well as the things employers are always on the lookout for.
Representatives of the Civil Service were present to explain the best ways to manage applications and assessment centres. Furthermore, employees from the advertising agency The&Partnership came in to discuss the Girls On Tour initiative, which aims to raise the profile of talented female creatives by other females creatives, touring the country to deliver inspiring talks and speak to students considering a career in the industry.
