Carpet design success for second-year student

Nanci Byrne-Lynch, a textiles student, has been shortlisted for the COVER Carpet Design Awards 2021.

Date: 19 May 2021

The shortlist for the COVER Carpet Design Awards 2021 has been announced, with second-year Textiles BA student Nanci Byrne-Lynch making the list. The awards celebrate original design and innovation in the handmade rug industry.

There are nine award categories and Nanci’s carpet design, titled (I’d rather be in) Pantelleria, was shortlisted for the Best Emerging Designer category. She said: “It’s very exciting to be shortlisted for a brand new award and have my rug made by artisan weavers in Afghanistan. I couldn’t have done it without James Hunting, who pushed and supported me to keep designing right up until the last minute! I feel extremely privileged to be on his course and taught by his team.”

The virtual award ceremony, where the winners will be announced, takes place Thursday 20 May. Book your ticket today.
