Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP) is a key element of all Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes and a statutory requirement for trainee teachers. ITAP's strengthen the connection between educational research and classroom practice by providing dedicated opportunities for trainees to develop, practise and refine essential teaching approaches in a structured and supportive environment.
This section of the hub provides primary and secondary mentors with access to ITAP guidance, training materials, resources and key documentation to support trainees throughout each stage. The resources are designed to help mentors facilitate high-quality professional conversations, provide focused feedback and support trainees in developing evidence informed classroom practice.
Schools and mentors play a central role in the success of ITAP's. Through targeted opportunities to observe expert practice, rehearse specific techniques, receive feedback and reflect on their development, trainees build the confidence and expertise needed to become effective classroom practitioners.
