Petya Delieva

Petya is a graduate of London Met after completing her degree in Sport and Exercise Science BSc in 2022. We caught up with Petya to talk about her experience studying at London Met, as well as finding out what she's up to now.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am originally from Bulgaria and grew up in a small mountain town in the southwest part of the country. Surrounded by nature and a close-knit community, I developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors, local traditions and the strong sense of connection that comes with small-town life. Growing up in this environment taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and community – qualities that continue to shape who I am today.

What brought you to London Met?

I discovered London Metropolitan University while researching my options online. I reached out to Chris Chamberlain, the course leader for BSc Sport and Exercise Science, and to my surprise, he replied and invited me to attend one of his lectures. I enjoyed the session so much that I immediately felt London Met was the right place for me. Chris played a crucial role in my decision – he was honest, friendly, and very supportive, helping me throughout the entire application process.

What did studying at London Met mean to you?

Studying at London Met meant a great deal to me – it was not just an academic experience, but a personal transformation. Coming from a small town in Bulgaria and starting a new life in the UK with no language skills, I never imagined I would one day earn a university degree. London Met gave me that opportunity. Through my studies in Sport and Exercise Science, I developed both professionally and personally – gaining confidence, new skills and a clearer vision of my future.

Tell us about your current role

I am currently a Trainee Clinical Scientist in Cardiac Science at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, while also studying as part of the Scientist Training Programme (STP). In this role, I am training to perform and interpret a variety of diagnostic cardiac tests and to support the diagnosis and management of patients with heart conditions. The position allows me to combine my scientific knowledge with my passion for helping people improve their health – something that has motivated me since my studies at London Met.

What drives you?

What drives me is seeing people happy and knowing that I’ve contributed, even in a small way, to their wellbeing or success. That sense of making a positive impact is my greatest reward and what keeps me motivated every day.

Do you have any advice for anyone else considering studying at London Met?

My advice would be to believe in yourself and never be afraid to take the first step, no matter how big the challenge seems. London Met is a place that welcomes people from all backgrounds and provides great support to help you succeed. Make the most of every opportunity, stay consistent and surround yourself with people who inspire and motivate you. If you work hard and stay determined, amazing things can happen.
