Brazilian Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability MSc student Elis Conde discusses her decision to move to the UK to pursue her postgraduate studies at London Met.

Why did you decide to study at London Met?

The Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability MSc at London Met offers a deep understanding of the field of corporate social responsibility that is, nowadays, changing the way companies conduct businesses. The course coordinator, Dr Samuel Idowu, has edited and contributed to several textbooks in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the University has won several prestigious awards for CSR and sustainability.

Why did you want to study in London?

I chose the UK because of its reputation for excellence in master’s education, the country’s multicultural environment and mainly due to the UK’s commitment to supporting the development of other countries. I chose to live in London to have more networking opportunities.

How did you find the experience of moving to another country?

Moving to the UK has been a challenging experience for me with a balance of positive gains, despite the unexpected situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe that part of the experience of studying abroad is related not only to the study itself but also to the immersion in the culture that the student does during this period.

What has been your favourite part of the course?

My favourite part of the course was during the Practical Sustainability module when we had the opportunity to visit some companies and understand how sustainability has been effectively applied to a different business' range.

What do you hope to do after graduation?

Upon completing my MSc, I intend to work as a CSR and sustainability consultant for industries located in the Amazon region, in Brazil. And, in this way, helping companies from different segments to develop their businesses more sustainably.

What would you say to an international student considering a degree with London Met?

Studying at London Metropolitan University has been a very positive experience for me. In addition to the specific knowledge of my course, I also received support from the University for career development. The University offers an excellent structure to support studies, such as the library and access to various materials online. Another positive point is that university students have free access to the University's gym, which was essential for me to maintain physical activities and also helped me a lot with anxiety, especially during the winter.
