Tandemize is back! The cross-cultural arts programme returns to The Cass

Tandemize is a cross-cultural programme supporting students and practitioners to develop the social and cultural impact of their work.

Date: 25 January 2016

Now in its second year, Tandemize is a not-for-profit cross-cultural and cross disciplinary programme which invites UK students and practitioners to visit and work with students and practitioners from other countries to understand and develop the social and cultural impact of their creative practice.

This year ten travel fellowships have been awarded to five graduates from The Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design at London Met and five students from The University of Moratuwa in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Tandemize travel fellowships are funded by the British Council to support students and graduates in cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural creative practice.
They work as an exchange with the participants from each country visiting each other for a week to work with, and learn from each other.

As part of the London residency at The Cass, participants, as a group, will be asked to develop and design a public-participation project, or a series of participation projects that will run in The Cass Bank Gallery during London Craft Week, 3-7 May May 2016.

Tandemize is run by Mah Rana, pathway leader for Jewellery & Silversmithing, through Cass Projects.

Last year Tandemize brought jewellery students from The Cass together with students in Cairo. This year the participants involved work across three different disciplines; architecture, fashion and design.

The project aims to develop participants understanding of how creative practice can impact on both culture and society and teach them to develop creative solutions through cross cultural knowledge-exchange. Tandemize aims to take practice beyond the workbench and design studio, and to site it in public spaces.

The project will develop the practitioners understanding of how to engage with diverse audiences and to facilitate public-participation, broadening the reach of art, architecture and design.
