Students display their talent for Digital Media at Summer Show

Employers interested in hiring talented graduates can arrange a personal tour of the show until the end of July

Date: 19 June 2026

The annual School of Computing and Digital Media Summer Show displayed an incredible line-up of projects celebrating the work of London Met students.

The event kicked off with a launch event at the Holloway campus which showcased a huge range of innovative and creative works from students and academics across computing, mathematics, and media.

This included Invisible Bruises, an eight-minute documentary produced by MA Documentary Filmmaking students. The film explores domestic abuse as a hidden and often misunderstood pattern of coercive control, emotional manipulation and psychological harm.

Master’s student Parwinder Singh, the Editor and Colourist of the film, has recently completed his dissertation on the use of artificial intelligence in digital marketing and how to promote products digitally.

Parwinder, who has worked as a video editor and VFX artist on more than 70 music videos, said studying at London Met has greatly enhanced his skills – including the theories behind colour schemes and fonts – and he particularly enjoyed learning from other students.

“We all know how everything is on the internet and everyone has a phone, so if you are studying digital media, you get to know how to promote your own work, how to get connection across the whole world.

“While studying digital media, I learned how to manage things online digitally, how to use AI, and lots of these skills.”

The launch event also featured guest speakers, screenings of student films, live demonstrations and interactive sessions in the TV and film studios, a 360° video experience, and a live recording session in the music studio.

The evening gave students, academics, and alumni the chance to network and socialise.

Visitors to the Summer Show were able to see robots in action, explore cutting-edge work in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Programming, and enjoy installations from Music Technology students.

This cross-pollination is typical of a department where many courses are multivalent. Students from BA Journalism, BA Fashion Marketing and Journalism, and BA Film and Television Production learn together, swapping ideas and techniques.

Dr Aurora Herrera, a lecturer in Television Journalism, said this is very exciting, adding: “This is where the best creativity comes from as it encourages students to think beyond the boundaries of their own disciplines and develop a broader understanding of contemporary media practice.”

Journalism modules are led by experienced industry professionals such as Dr Herrera who is passionate about bringing both industry expertise and academic insight to her teaching.

Students can also benefit from the expertise of legendary former-Guardian Editor Alan Rusbridger, who recently joined the BA Journalism teaching team.

Along with the state-of-the-art facilities, Dr Herrera said the department benefits from being a community of warmth, safety and compassion.

“We work with our students through challenges they are facing and uplift them when they are growing both personally and professionally.”

Jhoan Davila, a final year digital media student, agreed that the teachers are very supportive.

He said the “amazing” digital media course is very broad, creating lots of opportunities for him, but he has enjoyed studying user experience (UX) design the most.

“I really enjoy doing that because it makes you put yourself into the user's needs, and it's something that you never think about, simple things like the user journey for somebody that is going to use a coffee machine.

“There's a lot behind it which you never think about, and people that design those types of things know this. For me, it was really good because it made me see things in ways that I didn't.”

The SCDM Summer Show ran from Thursday 11 June until Friday 19 June.
