London Metropolitan University has been confirmed as a Disability Confident Leader, the highest level in the UK Government's Disability Confident Scheme. This accreditation recognises employers who demonstrate a strong and proactive commitment to inclusion for people with disabilities.

The university is one of only 14 higher education institutions nationally holding this prestigious award as of 2025.

This achievement is part of a series of significant milestones demonstrating London Met's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, including securing Charter Marks and external recognition, investing in positive action programmes and improving governance.

Marva de la Coudray, Director of London Met's Centre for Teaching Enhancement, and Director of the Centre for Equity and Inclusion, said:

"Inclusion is embedded in everything we do at London Met. It's part of our culture. These Charter Marks reflect that sustained, whole-institution commitment. These Charter Marks are a powerful reflection of our mission to transform lives through education and social justice."

The university's External Reviewer, from Royal Holloway, University of London, who endorsed the Disability Confident Leader status, said:

"London Metropolitan University has demonstrated its dedication to disability inclusion and provided a comprehensive array of evidence to support its application. This endorsement recognises London Met's inclusive culture and its commitment to ensuring accessibility for all, inspiring other organisations in the sector to follow your lead in promoting disability inclusion."

The achievement follows a strong year of progress for the university's Equality, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EEDI) Committee, which has strengthened governance and launched new sub-committees on charter marks, anti-harassment, student family and carer policy, and EDI training. Additionally, the institution has continued to invest in its sector-leading Rainbow Room and in positive action programmes to support staff success, such as Springboard, the Stonewall Leadership Programme and WHEN.

The university is also preparing renewal of its Athena Swan Bronze Award and developing plans for Race Equality Charter and Stonewall Proud Employers applications.
