London Met celebrates another year of strong National Student Survey results

The University is joint 10th among English universities for overall positivity in the latest NSS results

London Metropolitan University has recorded another year of improved student satisfaction in the 2026 National Student Survey (NSS), with positive scores increasing across all ten themes measured by the survey. 

The results reflect London Met’s continued focus on providing students with the support and resources they need to succeed throughout their studies, with improvements seen across teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, learning resources and student wellbeing. 

NSS 2026 highlights 

  • Improvements across all 10 NSS themes  
  • Assessment and Feedback increased by 5.1 percentage points to 88.5%  
  • Top 5 in London for average positivity score across all themes 
  • UK No.1 for Pharmacology  
  • Four subjects ranked in the UK top 10  
  • No.1 in London across several subject areas  
  • Fifth in comparison with Russell Group universities based on average positivity across NSS themes  
  • Joint 10th among English universities for overall positivity* 

*Based on positive responses across the NSS questions asked of all teaching providers. 

Among the strongest results, Assessment and feedback increased by 5.1 percentage points to 88.5%. Positive ratings for how well the University communicated information about mental wellbeing support services also rose by 3.7 percentage points to 84.4%, while Teaching on my course, Learning resources and Student voice all saw increases of more than three percentage points. 

Outstanding subject-level performance  

London Met also achieved outstanding subject-level results in this year's survey. Pharmacology ranked first in the UK, while Mathematics (5th), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (6th) and Management Studies (7th) all placed in the national top 10. The University also ranked first in London for several disciplines, including Business Studies, Management Studies, Mathematics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Health Studies and Pharmacology, reinforcing London Met's reputation for delivering an excellent student experience across a diverse range of subjects. 

London Met performs strongly against Russell Group universities  

London Met also continues to perform strongly when benchmarked against the Russell Group. Based on average positivity across the survey themes, the University ranks fifth among the institutions included in the comparison, ahead of institutions such as LSE, UCL, and King’s College London. The University also achieved the highest score in the comparison for Assessment and Feedback, reflecting the University's commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.

Strong results across the student experience 

The National Student Survey gathers feedback from final-year undergraduate students across the UK, providing valuable insight into their experiences of university life. 

London Met's results demonstrate continued progress across key aspects of the student experience. Academic Support increased to 89.2%, Teaching on my Course reached 88.6%, while Learning Opportunities rose to 88.3%. Students also rated the University highly for Freedom to Express Ideas, Opinions and Beliefs, with a score of 90.2%.

The University has continued to enhance the academic and wider student experience through improvements to teaching and assessment, strengthened wellbeing support, increased opportunities for student engagement and enhancements to learning resources. 

These latest results build on London's Met's positive trajectory in recent years and reinforce the University's commitment to providing an inclusive, supportive and high-quality educational experience for every student.
