London Metropolitan University’s focus on employability is paying off for graduates, according to newly released data.
London Met is one of the best modern London universities for graduate employment according to the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) report, published annually by the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
Based on full-time First Degree students who graduated in 2010/11, the figures show that nearly 88% are in work or have been accepted onto further study courses.* This is an increase of 5% on the previous year, indicating that London Met’s new measures to boost student employability are working.
London Met’s score of 87.9% ranks closely with institutions such as the University of Warwick and the School of African and Oriental Studies, and makes it the second-highest ranked modern university in the capital.
The news comes days after the University’s Board of Governors affirmed, at their meeting on 4 July, that students’ employability would be the University’s key priority for the future.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Malcolm Gillies, said: “The news of the University's much improved results in the DHLE survey is a wonderful start to our ‘Year of Jobs’. It shows that our students command high employment levels on graduation; we also know that their average starting salaries are highly competitive.”
The success in the DLHE follows previous reports that highlight London Met’s strengths in helping students secure rewarding careers. Last year, a study by the Parthenon Group ranked the University 15th for ‘adding-value’ to degrees to improve students’ employment prospects.
With continuing graduate success and tuition fees among the lowest in the country, London Met really is the champion of affordable quality education.
