Covid and me: Do we still care what we wear?

London Met's Newsweek will explore post-Covid fashion, with a panel of experts discussing sustainable fashion to fast fashion, digital outfits, and the future of the high street.

Date: 11 March 2021

London Met’s Newsweek this March will focus on our sartorial choices under Covid, as student journalists ask 'do we still care what we wear?' Newsweek is a series of events run as part of the University's journalism course, which sees students produce magazines, online blogs, and television and radio programmes focused on a topical issue over the course of a week.

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted every area of our lives, not least our wardrobes. While some might be happy to live in loungewear inside our homes, others still want to put a more stylish foot forward online - and beyond.

All are welcome to join what should be an interesting and informative evening discussing what fashion will look like in the wake of the pandemic. A group of expert panellists will be talking about everything from sustainable fashion to fast fashion, from digital outfits to the future of the high street in a world of online shopping. How will concepts of fashion and our shopping habits change as lockdown measures begin to lift?

The panel comprises: Lauretta Roberts, editor-in-chief of The Industry; Sabinna Rachimova, founder of fashion label Sabinna; Irene Shelley, editor-in-chief, Black Beauty and Hair Magazine, Alex Erinle, founder of Thrill Digital and Barry Laden, British fashion entrepreneur and member of the Textile Working Group.

While normally this event would be accompanied by a catwalk fashion show, students have instead been invited to create their own fashion or beauty AR (augmented reality) filter to be presented in a short film during the panel discussion.

Registration is required in order to access the event and spaces are limited.
