London Met Learning and Teaching Conference 2026

The 2026 Learning and Teaching Conference brought together educators, researchers, professional staff, students, and sector partners to explore innovative, inclusive, and socially just educational practice.

Rooted in London Met’s strategic commitment to equity, inclusion, social mobility, and transformative education, this year's themes focused on how we collectively advanced student success from access to continuation, progression, degree outcomes, and graduate futures through pedagogies and practices aligned with the Education for Social Justice Framework (ESJF).

Contributions showcased research, practice, evaluation, co-creation, and innovation aligned with these institutional priorities.

Conference Themes

  • Designing Inclusive, Accessible and Representative Curricula
  • Transformative Pedagogy for Social Justice
  • Welcome, Induction and Student Belonging
  • Student Wellbeing, Support and Compassionate Education
  • Enhancing the Learning Environment and Digital Practices
  • Graduate Success, Employability and Future Skills
  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

The conference offered both online and in-person attendance. While some elements of the programme were available online, several sessions were delivered exclusively on campus to provide participants with the fullest experience.

The event was open to London Met staff and partners only.

Conference Highlights

Keynote Speaker

Professor Wendy Garnham, National Teaching Fellow, Professor of Psychology, SFHEA, FSEDA, and Director of Student Experience for the Foundation Year at the University of Sussex, delivered the keynote address. Professor Garnham is also Co-founder of the Active Learning Network.

Student Success Symposium

A dedicated Student Success Symposium ran alongside the main conference programme. Attendees heard how our award-winning employability team supported students and learned about a range of initiatives contributing to student success across the institution.

Introducing Skills Hub 2.0: Digital and Information Literacies Toolkits

Skills Hub 2.0 brought together guides, workshops, videos, and one-to-one support into a structured set of Digital and Information Literacies Toolkits. The initiative made it easier for students to access the right support at the right time and for staff to direct them to appropriate resources. In addition to a presentation within the conference programme, library colleagues were available after lunch to introduce attendees to the new materials and demonstrate how they could be used to support student learning.
