Love HE: Growing Together, the Power of Partnership & Collaboration

The 7th London Metropolitan Learning and Teaching Forum celebrated and shared best practices in partnerships and collaborations of all types in HE, including international, between institutions and students and with external organisations.

The event took place online so that our partner institutions can join from around the globe.

About the Speakers

Dr. Jon-Hans Coetzer - Dr. Coetzer is a senior higher education manager with over 25 years of experience in higher education. Focusing on instructional design and programme management, delivery and assessment practices, and academic and quality assurance management in the ever-changing landscape of higher education.

He also worked as Project Coordinator in Strategic Crisis Management Training for the Swiss Federal Presidency in Bern from 2010 - 2015. Jon-Hans has also worked as senior delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)responsible for training the armed forces in the Law of War and the Geneva Conventions and the Additional Protocols, during 1995 - 2002, in more than fifteen countries at war. He currently serves as Team Leader for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), including establishing collaborative partnerships with institutions of higher education and universities focusing on Inclusive Pedagogy, Business, Conflict, Peace and Sustainable Development Studies.

Jon-Hans’ research interests focus on the cross-cultural challenge of framing attuned leadership in the international classroom for positive change in higher education for sustainable development in the 21st century, including developing transformational learning for delivering results within the UN 2030 Agenda-framework through advocating for more inclusive pedagogical practices. He continues to publish academic papers and essays, including participating in conferences. Jon-Hans led the planning of UNITAR’s First International Research Conference hosted at the UN Bonn Campus in November 2023 focusing on the Climate Security: Peace and Security Consequences of Climate Change.

Sandra Sinfield began her career at the University in 1990 as an Associate Lecturer and is now a University Teaching Fellow and Associate Teaching Professor in the Centre for Teaching Enhancement (CTE). She provides research-informed leadership in innovative professional development for staff in teaching, learning, assessment, and curriculum design.

Mia Nembhard (she/her) is the Inclusive Communities Manager at the Centre for Equity and Inclusion. She focuses on creating an environment that welcomes and celebrates the cultural diversity of students, staff, and local communities. Collaborating with key staff and students, Mia works to improve inclusive practices, organizational culture, and equitable representation.

Claire Renwick acts as a bridge between organisations wishing to engage with the university and academics wanting to find innovative ways to deliver real world impact through their research.

Professor Karim Ouazzanne, his research interests include artificial intelligence (AI) applications, cyber security and big data, computer vision, bimodal speech recognition for wireless devices, hard and soft computing methods, computational flow dynamics (CFD) and flow metering, optical instrumentation and lasers.

Rohullah Khalid, his passion for mental health support combined with his AI expertise supports mental health and psychological well-being.

Sabin Nakarmi, his strong interest in the field of artificial intelligence and data analytics which led him to pursue this field.

 

The London Met Learning & Teaching Forum series provides an essential cross-institutional space to foreground some of the excellent work in areas relating to learning and teaching and create a dedicated space to facilitate the sharing of effective practice whilst also bringing together our academic community.

The Forum is aimed at Course Leaders, Module Leaders, Academic Mentors, Heads of School, Heads of Subject and HOSEAOs, as well as interested colleagues from across professional services. Previous events have discussed Assessment, Social Justice, NSS initiatives, the experience of international students and the impact of Generative AI on HE. The forum series leads up to our annual Learning & Teaching Conference which will take place in late in June 2025.
