Diaraye Kim Barry

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I grew up in Germany and Belgium and I’ve always been interested in understanding how legal systems function and connect internationally, which is what led me to choose a degree in Law (with International Relations)

What brought you to London Met?

I was drawn to London Met because of its practical approach to teaching, its reputation for supporting international students, and its location in one of the most exciting cities in the world for legal and international affairs.

What does studying at London Met mean to you?

It’s academically enriching and personally rewarding. The professors are knowledgeable and very approachable and my classmates bring diverse perspectives to discussions, especially once everyone overcomes initial shyness. It’s a place where I feel supported to grow both as a student and as a future professional.

Tell us about your current role if you’re working now.

At the moment, I’m focusing on my studies full-time, but I am exploring internships and volunteering opportunities in the legal field to start building practical experience.

What drives you?

I’m driven by curiosity and a desire to have a positive impact, in both the legal sector or on a day-to-day base.

What’s the proudest moment in your life?

One of my proudest moments so far has been leaving my home country to study abroad on my own. It was a huge step out of my comfort zone, but it’s been the start of an incredible personal journey.

Tell us a little bit about your interests outside of uni and why they are important to you.

I enjoy visiting museums, attending cultural or networking events, shopping, doing pilates and going out for food. These activities help me stay active, meet new people, and never get bored.

What’s next in your career?

After finishing my degree, I plan to complete the SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination) to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales. My goal is to specialise in international law and work in a firm or organisation with a global focus.

Do you have any advice for anyone else considering studying at London Met?

Go for it! Everyone’s really welcoming, the teaching staff are brilliant and you’ll meet people from all over the world. Even if you’re shy at first, that feeling disappears quickly.

How were the other students and the teaching staff on the course? Are you still in touch?

Both have been fantastic. The staff are approachable and always ready to help, and I’ve stayed in touch with quite a few classmates after working on projects together.

Photo coming soon.
