Maxine Asante

Biography

Maxine Asante obtained a First-Class BSc (Hons) degree in Property and Planning from the University of Westminster, accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and is currently completing her PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, progressing toward Fellowship (FHEA).

Before joining London Metropolitan University, Maxine worked in the planning and higher education sectors. She began her career as a Graduate Town Planner at Savills, contributing to a range of corporate, commercial, and education development projects. She later held positions at the University of Westminster and the University of Hertfordshire, supporting student success, apprenticeships, and widening participation through outreach, academic skills development, and learner-focused interventions.

At London Met, Maxine is a Lecturer and Course Leader for the Foundation Year in the School of the Built Environment. She teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, delivering modules in academic research skills, applied mathematics, digital literacy, and planning and development. Her teaching practice is grounded in inclusive pedagogy, research-informed curriculum design, and a commitment to supporting diverse learners to thrive in higher education and in professional practice.

Maxine is also involved in a number of internationally funded projects, with a focus on equity, diversity and inclusion in the built environment, skills development, and sustainable education practice.

Her research interests include inclusive education, curriculum design, equity, diversity and inclusion in the built environment, sustainability, skills development, and widening participation.
