National Writing Project

We all agree that teachers of reading should read. But what about teachers of writing?

London Met is forming a partnership with The National Writing Project to support our student teachers wellbeing as well as their developing understanding of writing pedagogy.

The National Writing Project is a grassroots organisation which believes that teachers of writing should have the space to write – to explore the process of writing and to be enriched both professionally and personally by the experience. The key question behind the movement is ‘what happens when teachers gather together to share their writing?’

Not just for student teachers – any teacher can be part of a teachers’ writing group. The groups meet regularly to engage in creative writing activities and explore what writing can offer themselves and the pupils they teach. NWP teachers find that their classroom practice is transformed. Our relationship with the written word has the capacity to be one of authenticity, empowerment and joy. This is true for both pupils and teachers, given appropriate space and stimulus.
