Henrietta Lacks

Henrietta was born in the US in 1920 and died of cervical cancer in 1951. Her cancer cells were immortalised as the HeLa cell line without her permission. They are still used in labs all over the world for vital scientific medical research.​​ The generation of HeLa cells was a medical breakthrough, but it also highlighted the importance of consent.​
