Mia Nembhard

Mia Nembhard (she/her) is the Inclusive Communities Manager within the Centre for Equity and Inclusion. Her work focuses on fostering an inclusive environment across the institution that is welcoming and celebrates the cultural diversity of our students, staff and local communities. Working closely with key staff and students across the University, Mia ensures there is continuous focus on improving and promoting inclusion practice, provision, organisational culture and equitable representation.

With a formative background in student organising and representation, including former local roles at the University of Leicester and SOAS University London and national experience as Women's representative for the National Union of Students (NUS) and National Student Director for BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport), Mia has a wealth of experience in building inclusive communities and infrastructure within institutions.  

She has worked with the Office for Students and Oxford University Press' Epigeum on projects and learning resources aimed at tackling racial harassment and supporting student survivors. As a Human Geographer, Mia's experience in city planning has focused on inclusive design and the experience of women and disabled communities in public spaces.  

As a five-time director within higher education organisations in sport, education, wellbeing and commercial services, Mia employs a whole-school approach to EDI work and practice. Alongside her work in education, Mia is a freelance host, delivering discussions on topics such as healing from systemic violence.
